Becki has lived in the Lake District all her life, even choosing to stay local when she studied illustration at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle, graduating in 2017. Some of her biggest inspirations are Bijou Karman, Laura Callaghan, Helen Green and Natalie Foss, to name a few. “When I was in my senior year at college, Natalie Foss was another big inspiration for my work, and one of the artists who first inspired me to be a lot more playful with color. , not necessarily choosing to use naturalistic or realistic colors in my work,” Becki told Creative Boom. “That really helped me grow my practice.”

Currently making her way into writing, after a few recent assignments for Courier Magazine and Little White Lies, Becki is also dabbling in record covers for local bands. “I’m creating an album cover for a folk musician, which is really exciting,” she says.

Luckily for Becki, she was doing illustration work alongside her full-time job in 2020, but became exclusively freelance the same year, forced to start her own business after being laid off. “The dreaded Covid-19 chose my fate, but it was the boost I needed to get started properly,” she explains. And so far so good. “I’m passionate about illustration and I try my best to find my voice as an illustrator – which can be tricky and quite scary at times, but I’m determined to succeed in my career in this industry and push myself as hard as I can. possible.”
