Artists like Barrington Levy and Lila Iké will headlining alongside Channel One, Eva Lazarus and Iration Steppas for this year’s City Splash Festival.

City Splash is a celebration of reggae music, culture and food and will take place in Beckenham Place Park in South London in September.

More than 40 artists will perform on four stages; the Mainstage, Rampage Carnival (AZ), Channel One Presents (AZ) and Woodlands.

The stages are surrounded by old-growth forests and grassy hills so festival-goers can take in breathtaking scenery while enjoying their favorite reggae numbers.

For over 50 years, reggae has influenced popular musical genres from Dancehall, Ska, Dub and Roots to UK genres such as Garage, Grime and Drum and Bass.

City Splash aims to honor the powerful contribution of reggae to British culture.

Reggae music, which often focuses on love, fashion and lifestyles while addressing social issues and solutions at the heart of the lyrics, has had a significant impact on London’s youth culture in particular.

South London is a district where reggae music is predominant and is home to incredible sound systems such as Jah Shaka and Saxon Studio.

This is also where Lovers Rock, a romantic style of reggae music, originated in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Reggae singers such as Janet Kay and Carroll Thompson have played central roles in the Lovers Rock genre.

City Splash supports the best Caribbean street vendors in London so reggae lovers can sample the region’s delicious food as well – from jerk chicken and fried plantains to vegan Italian stew, there’s something for everyone. tastes.

And if the food on offer isn’t enticing enough, there will be rum, locally brewed craft beers, and spirits to keep the vibe going.

City Splash 2021 will take place on September 12 and plans to host 8,000 people.

Hollie Cook, Kiko Bun, Dawn Penn, Rasties and Marla Brown are other reggae artists to take to the stage.
