Following the relaxation of restrictions linked to Covid-19 in Greece, the Municipality of Athens launched a Summer festival with live events taking place at four outdoor venues across the Greek capital.
Open to residents and visitors, children and adults, the festival includes concerts, dance performances and theatrical performances taking place in the Technopole place in Gazi; in the theaters of Kolonos and Grava; and at AB movie theater at Ano Patisia.
Of June to September, the municipality offers artists, artistic groups and businesses the possibility of using these places free of charge, while providing them with the necessary equipment.
Following an open call, the municipality’s events committee selected 100 proposals for cultural events and announced a program organized by the Sports, Culture and Youth Organization of the City of Athens (OPANDA) and Technopolis.
All events only allow one seated audience. All four venues are operating under Covid-19 restrictions and official guidelines to ensure the safety and health of all performers and the public.
Those who do not have the opportunity to attend the Athens summer events can watch all the concerts live streaming, no matter where they are located.
“Culture is Athens”
The festival is part of three-year project “Culture is Athens” launched by the municipality to modernize, promote and connect the cultural entities of Athens, and actively support artists and culture workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
âThis summer festival is different because it is organized by the Municipality of Athens, the people of culture and their ideas. We want to support these people but also provide the city with the colors and sounds it needs, âsaid the mayor of Athens. Kostas Bakoyannis noted.
The municipality’s summer cultural festival program is available (in Greek) here.
